Pesaro and its surroundings |

Pesaro and its surroundings. On the border between the Marche and Emilia Romagna, Pesaro is a flourishing industrial town that produces, above all, furniture. It is also a well known seaside resort, famous for the Rossini Opera Festival and for its monuments such as the San Costanzo Fortress, the Ducal Palace (which today houses the prefecture), the famous Gioacchino Rossini Conservatory, the Piazza del Popolo, its museums, its splendid theatre and, obviously, Rossini's birthplace. Going north along the coast it is possible to enjoy splendid views from the panoramic road before coming to Gabicce Mare and Gradara. Gabicce Mare is a seaside resort with sandy beaches and excellent hotels, restaurants and night clubs. Gradara is world famous for its fortress, completely restored, mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy as the place where Paolo and Francesca were tragically murdered, and for its old walled historical centre. |
