Between Fabriano and Camerino |
|
Between Fabriano and Camerino. Fabriano has always been famous for its papermaking, its leather, wool and iron working and is a thriving commercial town. These determined its prosperity and have left important traces in Italian art history with its Gothic painting school. The centre of the town is the Piazza del Comune with its Gothic Palazzo del Podestà, opposite which we can find one of the oldest examples of civil medieval architecture in the Sturinalto fountain. The town hall is next to the arcade of St. Francis' church which has a courtyard from where you enter the Gentile Theatre, one of the most interesting 19th century theatres in the area. Also of certain interest are the castle in Sassoferrato and Genga with its Frasassi Caves, famous throughout Italy. Camerino. The medieval centre of Camerino is more or less intact. The town is rich in cultural and artistic traditions, with its university (the first 14th Century "studium") and the Camerino painting school of the 15th century. The centre of the town is Piazza Cavour with the cathedral and the Ducal Palace. |
